Medilink is delighted to announce our chosen Charity Partner Candlelighters Children’s Cancer Charity.
Candlelighters do exceptional work supporting children with cancer and their families and throughout Yorkshire the charity spends over £500,000 on research annually into the causes and potential treatments of children’s cancer.
Over 150 children are diagnosed with cancer every year in the region, and the charity offers financial help during the crucial three months after diagnosis and provides holidays for all families undergoing treatment. In addition, they fund ‘Play Leaders’ who work on inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, and radiotherapy departments. Specialist play equipment is also funded.
A childhood cancer diagnosis affects the entire family and the Candlelighters Family Support Centre – ‘The Square’, provides services which help make the situation as comfortable as possible. Both physical and emotional support is provided whilst events for parents, grandparents and siblings groups are held throughout the year. Social events like the Grandparents Tea Parties, trips to Scarborough and Mums & Daughters Evenings provide a sense of normality for family members.
This September, Candlelighters will launch an exciting, brand new service which will offer more support to people who have difficulty getting to the Leeds centre. The ‘Candlelighters Bus’ will provide the services that its Support Centre offers by going to locations throughout Yorkshire. This means that families who may find getting to Leeds a challenge will have services at a location near to them.
Candlelighters is continuously working on developing new services which means the charity will need to raise more money, and Medilink Yorkshire and Humber is proud to be supporting such a wonderful cause.
Medilink will support Candlelighters by being the chosen charity for the ‘Yorkshire and Humber Healthcare Business Awards 2017’ also through Medilink’s Membership referral scheme.
Jo Shepheard, Candlelighters’ Director, said: “We are so grateful to Medilink Yorkshire & Humber for supporting us. Their support will enable us to continue to make a difference to our families as well as helping us provide more, essential services”.
Jason Brannan, Medilink Yorkshire & Humber’s PR & Communications Director said: “As well as providing sector leading membership services to provide competitive advantage to the Healthcare sector and transform healthcare, Medilink was founded on strong altruistic principles, so we are delighted to support the exceptional work that Candlelighters does for children with cancer and their families.
“We look forward to a long relationship with Candlelighters and will endeavour to support their work across the Healthcare Technology and wider healthcare sector.”
