Case Study: GP practice group, Leeds
The challenge: A GP group in Leeds, looking to integrate a newly acquired practice, wished to understand the needs amongst both new and existing patients in order to begin better designing services around these needs.
The solution: Medilink proposed a qualitative/quantitative market research study designed to identify a variety of needs with a select group of patients and then test these with the entire patient population. Beginning with a focus group with selected demographic groups, the Medilink team guided the group through a typical journey at the practice to identify a longlist of needs. These needs were then fed into the design of a comprehensive questionnaire delivered electronically to all patients via the mjog system and in paper form for those unable to access the survey online.
The questionnaire was extremely successful, completed by 23% of the entire patient population and therefore well above the industry standard of 10-15%. Engagement across the age groups was well balanced, demonstrating that online surveys are a suitable methodology for conducting census-style research.
The survey results were variously segmented by practice, age and health status to identify insight and trends.
The outcome: The results and recommendations were presented back to the practice management group who have already begun to implement these across the entire patient population. The study achieved buy-in from the patient representative group and the wider population who were pleased to have been engaged in the process.
