Andrew Cash - one of Medilink Yorkshire and Humber’s (Y&H) Directors and Chief Executive of the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - has received a knighthood in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.
One of the longest-serving chief executives in the NHS, Andrew received the prestigious title for his services to healthcare, which includes major contributions to health policy, system reform and healthcare delivery.
Andrew has been a Chief Executive for 19 years and has worked in roles across the NHS, including community services and regional office. He was a founding member of the NHS Foundation Trust Network, which he chaired until July 2006. He has undertaken two secondments to the Department of Health, firstly to lead the Millennium project ensuring that the transition to the year 2000 went smoothly across the NHS and secondly as Director General of Provider Development for one year from 1 July 2006. In June 2004 he was appointed as one of Medilink (Y&H) Board Directors.
Speaking about the knighthood, Andrew said: "I am delighted and frankly overwhelmed to receive such an honour. My career in the NHS over the last 30 years has enabled me to work alongside some extremely talented and dedicated people and it is a privilege to be involved in delivering and shaping health services for Sheffield and the NHS nationally."
