Two high level funding opportunities are currently open for companies in the region who have innovative and collaborative ideas that can help shape the future of healthcare.

The NIHR's Invention for Innovation (i4i) programme has two funding streams available for companies who show innovation, relevance and impact and will contribute to the future of healthcare.

Stream 3 applications is primarily aimed at those in the first stage of a full collaborative project and must include collaboration between at least one industry and one research partner (academic or clinical). Total project costs can be no more than £100K in total, of which 75% funding is available.

Stream 4 applications should build on the results of a completed assessment of feasibility and must also have collaboration between at least one industry and one research partner (academic or clinical). Successful projects will be funded to a maximum of 50% of the total project costs, with £100K-£300K per year in funding available.

Applications must be submitted to the NIHR no later than 5.00pm on Friday 21 May 2010.

The second funding opportunity - Competition for Collaborative R&D - opens on 10 May 2010 through The Technology Strategy Board who has allocated up to £8m to invest in highly innovative collaborative research and development projects in the area of digital services.

Up to one quarter of the funding will be awarded to fast-track projects which last up to 12 months and have a total value of less than £150k. The remainder of the funding will be awarded to collaborative R&D projects lasting 12-36 months and with a total project value exceeding £150k.

The key dates for this competition are 10 May 2010 when the competition opens and 17 June 2010 when the compulsory EOI must be submitted.
