The cream of Yorkshire’s Healthcare Technologies sector was recognised at the Medilink Yorkshire and Humber (Y&H) Innovation Day and Healthcare Business Awards 2009; the Yorkshire healthcare industry’s equivalent to the Oscars.
At a glittering ceremony held at The Royal Armouries, Leeds, on July 8th; the event celebrated cutting edge innovation, outstanding business achievements and international success; attracting over 200 healthcare specialists from across the region.

Below is a round up of this year’s winners, all of which will be automatically put forward for the national Medilink Awards which take place next year.
• UDL Innovation Award – Winner Brandon Medical Company Ltd (Leeds). Runners up - AGA Healthcare (Hebden Bridge) and Tissuemed Ltd (Leeds).
• UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) Export Achievement Award – winner Trio Healthcare Ltd (Skipton). The runners up in this category included Downs Surgical Ltd, (Sheffield) and Tissuemed Ltd (Leeds).
• Eversheds Growth in Sector Award – Winner Paxman Coolers (Huddersfield). Runners up Single Use Surgical Ltd (Barnsley) and Trio Healthcare (Skipton).
• Yorkshire Bank Start Up Award – winner Intervene Ltd (Sheffield). Runners up in this category were Imagel Ltd (York) and Neotherix Ltd.
• Jonathan Lee Recruitment Partnership with the NHS Award – winner Independent Care Products Ltd (Halifax). Runners up included Leeds Reproductive Bioscience (Leeds) and Medcom (York).
The final award was the Medilink Beacon Award, which was received by Sir Chris O’Donnell acknowledging his outstanding contribution to the Healthcare Technologies sector. Sir Chris has worked at the highest level for some of the country’s best known healthcare technology companies, including Managing Director of Vickers Medical Division, Vice President of Europe for CR Bard, Inc. and Managing Director of Smith & Nephew’s Medical Division, becoming CEO of the company for ten years.
Since 2003 he has jointly chaired the UK’s government and industry Healthcare Industries Task Force, which aims to stimulate the growth and performance of the UK healthcare industry to maximise the benefit to patients. He is also the Chair for the Council at the University of York, a member of the Ministerial Medical Strategy Group, and Chair of the UK’s government and industry Healthcare Industries Task Force. Sir Chris’s hard work and dedication to the sector was recognised by the Queen in 2003 when he was knighted.
