Medilink's partner charity, Candlelighters, provide support to families facing children's cancer across Yorkshire. The charity has recently shared a story of 9-year-old Archie and his family, who live almost 70 miles from the hospital where the boy had to undertake leukaemia treatment.
Candlelighters' understood the hurdle experienced by the family and offered them to stay in a cottage, giving a feeling of warm home to the patient.
"When you are living in a hospital month after month you can soon go crazy, so having use of a bright, modern, cosy, spacious house complete with all mod cons was very much appreciated. The cottage really helped us with ‘Archie’s Journey’ as a whole. It relieved the pressure of the logistical nightmare and vastly improved our mental state" - said Archie's parents.
The cottage was provided with cooking facilities, so Archie could enjoy his favourite meals with his family. They could also play
board games, complete jigsaws, plug Playstation in or simply watch TV together, making it all feel like home.
"For us as a family the Cottage was a lifeline and we are truly grateful to have been able to use this amazing facility and are very thankful for the support Candlelighters gave us throughout our hospital stay.”
