Pioneering companies from Great Britain will this year be exhibiting on the British Pavilion at the Federation of International Medical Equipment (FIME) for the first time to showcase cutting edge innovations and ground breaking technologies.

Taking place in Miami, Florida, from 11-13 August 2010, the three day event is the premier international healthcare event in the U.S. calendar, attracting over 30,000 visitors with delegates from all medical backgrounds across the US, Canada and the Central America regions.

It is the first time the UK has had a pavilion at the show and British companies are looking forward to meeting with potential US distributors and forging new business partnerships.

Among the world’s leading innovations being showcased on the UK Pavilion is a pioneering laparoscopic device designed to aid gastric band deployment. The articulating instrument Logi™Flex, designed and manufactured by Surgical Innovations, uses both reusable and disposal elements (Resposable™) to offer American surgeons a cost effective, high quality solution.

The award winning company, who has recently been recognized by Her Mastery the Queen for their clinical and technical excellence, design and manufacture a wide range of pioneering Resposable® instrumentation – of which will be on display at the exhibition.

Graham Bowland Chief Executive Officer of Surgical Innovations, said: “We are looking forward to further enhancing our relationships with partners and laparoscopic surgeons from across the US. Export activities are a key growth area within our business and the US and Latin America are key target markets. We are looking forward to developing new business opportunities in this region.”

Another example of UK innovation that will be on the UK Pavilion is Clement Clark who will be showcasing their revolutionary respiratory portfolio at the
show.

Supporting clinicians in the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of respiratory disease, Clement Clarke offer consistent accuracy, affordable quality, superior drug delivery, improved efficiencies and reliable results - treating patients at home or in a clinic.

Recognized as being the ‘gold standard’ in treating asthma, Clement’s products are also used for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), oxygen therapy, cystic fibrosis and allergy rhinitis.

Their Peak Flow Meter and Inspiratory Flow Meter are just two of the cutting-edge products that Clement they will have on show at FIME.

Pal Boelcskei, International Sales Manager at Clement Clark, said: “FIME will offer us an ideal opportunity to meet potential distributors and contacts for the Latin American and US market. With distributors all over the world, we are looking forward to making more people aware of our products and their dependability in this exciting region.

The UK Pavilion is being organised by Medilink Yorkshire and Humber and UK Trade &Investment (UKTI), a Government Department that helps UK-based companies succeed in the global economy.

The exhibition will act as a platform for the companies to present their world-leading healthcare technologies into the US and Central American marketplace; highlighting how they are transforming the lives of patients and clinicians across the globe.

Charlotte Fraser, Medilink’s International Manager and UK Trade and Investment (UKTI)’s Sector Specialist, said: “FIME offers companies the perfect opportunity to develop new business leads and meet potential distributors from across the Americas. Working alongside UKTI companies can gain the right support to enter the US market and take the first step to trading with this global region.

“The UK medical technology sector has 2,771 companies generating £10.6 billion of turnover. It has a large proportion of the world’s most innovative medical technology SMEs, multinationals and leading R&D centres. It is at the forefront of healthcare innovation, and it gives me great pleasure to be able to promote such innovative technologies and solutions at FIME 2010.”

The UK Pavilion will be located on stand number 1737.
