With over 40 years healthcare experience, leading medical light manufacturer, Brandon Medical, has received two national awards and a £50,000 prize in recognition of their dedication to innovation and impressive growth rate during testing times at the National Chambers Awards 2009.
Representing Yorkshire and the Humber at the awards, Brandon Medical received both the ‘Outstanding Business Achievement award’ and the ‘Innovation Through Technology Award’ award for their cutting-edge HD-LED Medical Lighting and Symposia Medical Audio-Visual Systems.
Hosted by BBC’s news reporter Fiona Bruce and TV Presenter Mark Durden Smith, a total of 10 awards were given out, celebrating the success of businesses across the UK; testimony to the country’s growth, despite the economic difficulties.
The last 18 months have seen the development of HD-LED - the LED light source that has been made specifically to give surgeons the best possible lighting during surgery.
Satisfying both economic and environmental issues, the light source is both cheap to produce and extremely energy efficient - potentially reducing energy consumption by half. Brandon’s medical lighting uses LEDs which are easy to dispose of and fully recyclable.
The ‘Innovation Through Technology Award’ was given to Brandon’s Symposia. Installed in hospitals throughout the UK, the Symposia medical audio-visual system is designed for live surgery and surgical training purposes.
David Frost, Director-General of the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), said: “Brandon is a shining example of what a good British business can do in a global market. Brandon stood out from the rest because not only was it able to instinctively identify an opportunity, the company was also able to use its intelligence and experience to develop a set of unique products that help surgeons improve their skills and share crucial knowledge.”
Innovation lies at the heart of Brandon Medical and is the main reason for their success over the years. As a small family company based in Leeds, Brandon Medical has 30 employees spread across its office and manufacturing site.
Speaking after the awards, Graeme Hall, Managing Director, Brandon Medical, said:
“We are thrilled to receive these two awards. Brandon Medical is dedicated to providing new innovations to improve hospitals and its patient care. The £50,000 will go towards funding a virtual library of advanced surgical training that we can store and deliver to surgeons on demand all over the world as well as a new technology demonstrator for Symposia.”
