UKTI sees the 2012 Games as a unique opportunity to showcase UK plc throughout the world and to build a legacy of globally competitive and innovative businesses. If this is done effectively, UK companies can use the Games, and the contracts secured from them, as a platform for winning national and international projects for years to come.

UKTI Lisbon is aware of the Portuguese interest in the Olympics, World Cup, and overall infrastructural projects arising in Brazil. Local players welcome the opportunity of partnering with British companies in their approach to this market. Actually, delivering projects in countries like Brazil and Angola linked to Portugal by history and language is seen locally as a way out of recession. Portugal’s understanding of local culture and business makes it a privileged trade and investment partner of those countries.

Therefore, Portugal may play an important role as a platform for UK plc to gain business in those markets. UKTI Lisbon is applying this concept to the London Olympics legacy by organising this event on 9 February 2012 promoting partnerships between British and Portuguese companies, who can jointly explore business in Brazil.
