Description

In partnership with the Health Technologies KTN

This event is aimed at exploring the growing opportunities for consumer electronics in the healthcare sector. Leading figures from medical device companies, the private sector and the NHS will be brought together to discuss some of the issues around this market

Traditionally we have thought of healthcare in the UK as being provided exclusively by the NHS. When we are ill, we see a GP and may ultimately end up in hospital. When we become elderly or chronically ill, we may end up under the care of social services and the NHS and even when the care is provided in our own homes, it is funded and operated by the NHS.

In today’s changing society, however, consumers are better informed and have more choices in terms of diagnosis and treatment of their conditions. We are all more aware of our own health and better equipped to manage our own wellness and health if we choose to do so. There are an increasing number of products and services that can be purchased in high street shops or on the internet for the management of health. There are increasing opportunities for consumers to take control of their own health and wellness, independently of the NHS.

In this event we are interested in exploring the possibilities for the growth of the consumer-led market for electronics in healthcare, what opportunities it might present for UK electronics companies and what issues might affect the successful adoption of such technology by the general population. We will hear from leading figures in the industry and influential people in the NHS and Assisted Living sectors.

Delegates will also have the opportunity to debate some of these issues in a panel session led by important stakeholders in the industry.

-  Is there really a consumer-led market now? (if not, when might it happen?)
-  Who is already involved?
-  What are the barriers to entry for technology providers and are they different from a statutory NHS-led market?
-  What sort of products might we expect to see in this market?
-  Is the NHS likely to be involved in a consumer-led market (e.g. NHS direct)?
-  What role will the mobile network operators and fixed broadband providers play in this market?
-  Is there much potential for the investment community?

Brokerage Session
The event will include a brokerage session in the afternoon, from 14:40 to 17:00 (please note that the overall event starts at 9am). This brokerage session, split into 20-minute timeslots will offer delegates the opportunity to arrange face-to-face meetings with speakers, panel members and other delegates, enabling them to use their networking time in the most effective way. Delegates who wish to participate in this brokerage session will enter their profile in advance, and, in turn, will be able to review the profiles of other delegates and request meetings with the in specific timeslots.

Please register separately for the brokerage session -
