Lord Darzi launched the 'High Quality Care For All’ final review this year setting a new foundation for a health service that empowers staff and gives patients choice. As part of this review the Yorkshire Strategic Health Authority has produced a vision document ‘Healthy Ambitions’.

The challenge we now face is how to innovate and transform this vision into reality. This conference will provide an opportunity for the healthcare community in Yorkshire and Humber to better understand the ‘High Quality Care for All’ agenda and to participate in workshops aimed at sharing innovative practice and securing input into important areas of patient care.

Smart Solutions for Healthcare Associated Infections Roadshow
Does your company have a product or technology that could help prevent the spread of MRSA or similar infections?

Smart Solutions is an NHS programme that aims to find the best products and technologies from across all industry sectors that could be used to fight healthcare associated infections (HCAIs).

Medilink are hosting an event on 4th September on behalf of the Smart Solutions HCAI team at the Brooklands Hotel, Barnsley. This event will give you the chance to learn more about the Smart Solutions programme, meet with its facilitators and network with others who are working on HCAI projects.

The event will include presentations from, Dick Clark, Managing Director at Medipex on the support offered to companies and how to enter the clinical base, Clive Beggs, Leader of the Bradford Infection Group on developing an evidence base to market your products, and two case studies from companies who have successfully developed and supplied infection control products.

Championing the region’s Healthcare Technologies sector


The region’s leading healthcare companies were recognised at the Medilink Y&H Innovation Day and Healthcare Business Awards; held at The Royal Armouries, Leeds on June 5.

Sponsored by Yorkshire Forward, DePuy and Johnson & Johnson (Wound Management), the event also saw companies exhibit their innovations and featured three key speakers reflecting on the potential for innovation and accelerated adoption of technology to enhance efficiency of service delivery and improve patient care within the NHS.

These speakers were Brian James, Chief Executive of Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, Dr William Maton-Howarth from the Department of Health and Margaret Parton who established the first National Technology Adoption Hub for the NHS in England.

Hull based Vertual received the Eversheds ‘Innovation’ award for their virtual reality training solutions for radiotherapy clinical professionals. This involves VR software, 3D life-size immersive projections, tracking technology and authentic clinical control devices.

Skipton based specialists in silicone-based medical devices for stoma care, incontinence care and wound care applications - Trio Healthcare - walked away with the UDL ‘Start-up’ award. Trio achieved strong sales in their first year of trading thanks to their key products - Niltac™ and Silesse™ - providing major clinical benefits and cost advantages over conventional products.

Winner of the Rogers & Co ‘Partnership with the NHS’ award went to the Lean Healthcare Academy (LHA); which, with founding partner Airedale NHS Trust, works alongside organisations to build internal capacity. They aim to offer a vehicle that accelerates the adoption of Lean as a foundation stone for sustainable service transformation across the healthcare sector.

The Sheffield based specialist bathing equipment manufacturer - Kingkraft - received the Hendersons ‘Growth in Sector’ award. This is thanks to their continuous investment and development of manufactured products using cutting-edge techniques and materials; whilst also broadening their product range.

The Yorkshire Bank ‘Export’ award went to Rotherham based Inditherm - designer and manufacturer of products for heating and warming. They have experienced strong export sales of their leading patient warming medical products.

The Medilink Y&H ‘Beacon’ award - awarded to an individual that has shown an outstanding contribution to healthcare - went to Professor John Fisher who is Deputy Vice Chancellor at the University of Leeds, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Director of the Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering as well as the Chairman of Tissue Regenix.

LEADING HEALTHCARE COMPANIES REAP THE REWARDS
The UK’s most innovative healthcare companies had their hard work and outstanding achievements recognised at the Medilink UK National ‘Health Technology’ Awards in Birmingham on the 13 February 2008.

The event, which was held in the NEC’s Exhibition Seminar Theatre, saw a panel of judges from every region of the UK select the best of the Regional Medilink Award Winners for the following categories - Innovation, Growth in Sector, Business Start-Up, Export Achievement and Partnership with the NHS.

The Health Technologies KTN ‘Innovation’ Award was picked up by Medilink Yorkshire & Humber member, Leeds based Medical Lighting Specialists Brandon Medical Company Ltd, for the development of Symposia - the world’s first fully integrated medical tele-video system for healthcare. The Yorkshire based company’s innovation is an IP based open ended platform that allows complete integration of any medical video source providing full collaborative working between clinicians across any distance.
