What do you want to achieve?
To be able to answer this question thoroughly you need to carry out detailed research on both your audience (you want to communicate to) and your environment (the area or industry you are working in).
For example think about who your audiences are? Where they are based? How can they be contacted? What media channels do they access? What is there current opinion or view point? Do they currently use your products or competitors? Do they have any purchasing power or do their views influence purchasers etc?
When you understand your audience, turn your attention to your environment and the healthcare sector as a whole. For example find out if there are any legislation constraints that you should know about? If there are any national or international issues that may affect your business or goals? Has there been any recent research that may help to get your point across? What are your competitors doing or saying? What share they have of the market?
Once you have carried out your detailed research the next step is to set your objectives - identifying exactly what you want to achieve.
Your objectives will be affected by the amount of time, resources and budget you have and all of these areas will have to be taken into consideration when setting them.
Make sure from the outset that your objectives are SMART – Specific, measurable, achievable and time bound – and you know exactly what the desired outcome is for each one is.
